I think it does nothing. That is the thing with lucky-dips, not all the prizes are good. So there is small chance the fortunes will drop a Celestial mini (valuable), and a moderate chance of receiving the Lucky Aura (worthless)!

Gives you triple chest drops, double ecto/shard drops in UW/FoW, and makes you over 9,000 tines more likely to get a double scroll drop from the UW/FoW chest.

The Lucky Aura is Anet giving you nothing and still finding a way to make you happy about it.

I think it's just like the infamous Empty Chest.
In every dungeon I've ever designed, I always put a heavily protected Empty Chest. All kinds of traps, monsters, terrain hazards and locks must be dealt with before opening the chest, and when you open it, there's nothing! That always drives nut the players, and they end up searching the whole room, and tearing everything in there piece by piece, wasting their time and energy with it. They are wired to think that if there's a path or any difficulty to it, there must be a reason for its existence. But there's none! ????????? ?????????! Yay! |

I too would like to know what it does specifically. However, I have a hunch the revealing that info to us would require anet to tell us much more about the drop/rarity coding than they want to. We don't know exactly how HM/high level foes affects drop rates either, other than in a very vague "you get better stuff on average" kind of way. My guess is that the lucky aura probably does something like modify the drop spreadsheet in a very minor way, possibly equivalent to the effect of raising foes by X levels for the purposes of drops. Just a guess though.

I operate under the theory it increases my chances of getting a Celestial when I open fortunes.
I have absolutely no justification for this belief |
